The performance I chose to share is the King Island Dancers from West Alaska. The tribe that the King Island dancers belong to is called Aseuluk, meaning ‘people of the sea’. I chose this performance because growing up I was exposed a lot to Alaska Native culture and I believe it’s something that more people should know about. Just like in the lower 48, Alaskans have traditional regalia that is worn during their performances. Often times people will wear raven masks because the raven symbolizes good luck and also is believed to be the creator of all things. It was difficult to find any songs from Alaska Native culture because there are not many famous artists.
