The song I’ve chosen is called “Perfidia,” a Spanish piece by a Mexican composer (Alberto Domínguez)  in 1939. This specific example is from Andrea Bocelli, but it is one of countless versions of this piece. I was introduced to it through a completely different media, theatre, but that version changes the tempo and mood of the song. This song is about betrayal that someone feels about a lover, depicted by its slow and emotional tone that depicts that betrayal felt by its singer. Guitar is a very strong instrument within this, and while there is a beat, the establishing opening of the voice almost feel like it can change and determine how fast the piece will go. Its a piece you may bat an eye at for just being a love song, but its history ad notoriety to be able to last in culture nearly 100 years is impressive and speaks to the message the piece portrays.
