The song that I found is called “Moon Over the Mountain Guan” and though it is an older song, this specific recording was performed by an artist named Jiaoyue Lyu in 2016.  The song itself was inspired by a poem written about a soldier missing his family during war.  An important thing to note about this song is that it can be found under different titles such as, “Moon Over Mountain Pass” or “Moon Over Guan Mountains”.  This song is played solo on the guqin and is a slower paced but still detailed piece of music.  During the song, the strings are played through sliding, plucking, and flicking to produce a variety of sounds to add to the sound of the string being played.  The very first notes played and the last few notes are lower than the rest of the song which give it a more defined beginning and conclusion.  I chose this song because of how we talked about the guqin instrument in class.  I thought it was interesting that though it is a very distinct sounding instrument that is recognizable to its region, it is not widely played.  I also think that it has a peaceful and relaxing sound that draws me to it.
