I chose the song “Lag Jaa Gale” by Lata Magsekar. I chose this song because it appears to be a classic in the realm of music from India. This is backed by the over 245 million views on YouTube alone. After some research, I learned that the singer is one of the most well known artists from India over the past century. Also, the song was created for a Bollywood film, and the woman singing in the video is an actress from the film, not the actual singer. 

I found the song to seem familiar, in that it may be western influenced in some way. Despite this, you can clearly tell that it is music from India. This, in my opinion, is due to the rapid shifts in the singers voice on individual words, similar to the sliding of strings on the sarod and tambura like we discussed in class. 

Overall, I found the song enjoyable and the singer talented.
