Khamaj is a Hindustani classical raga. Because Hindustani classical music is known for its performers more than the compositions, I started this project by researching famous Hindustani musicians. I picked this song based on the famous musician who performed it (Shivkumar Sharma). Sharma was an innovator in Hindustani music: the main instrument in this song, the Santoor, was not even used in Hindustani classical music until Sharma popularized it. I enjoyed the bright and vibrant sound of the santoor throughout the piece combined with the tala of the tabla.
