I selected a unique Indian raga by the band Gaandharva. This raga is different from other ragas because they combine modern and traditional instruments in their song. The song starts with the tabla drums, and all the other instruments join. There is a sarod, cajon, flute, violin, guitar, ghungroo, and electric guitar that all play together in this song. The same person plays the cajon and ghungroo. The cajon is a beatbox, and the ghungroo is a string of bells played by the movement of the player’s foot. I chose this song because of how well the band sounds together, even though they play non-traditional instruments in a raga. This song has no vocals, but purely instruments create a driving sound for dancing. The general sound is repetitive, but as they play, they let the other players have solos on their different instruments. With all ragas, it gradually gets faster towards the end. I believe the end of the song is the best solely because of the build-up of suspense to the finale.
