I wanted to find a Hawaiian song that was popular while also still having cultural meaning, and I found that in Tiny Bubbles. A catchy love song made by famous musician Don Ho, a native Hawaiian. The album reached number fifteenth on the billboard 100 chart in 1966. The song does have plenty of western influence as we can see by not only the English language but the instruments as well. Guitars/Ukuleles, a Drumset, and a Piano are involved in one way or another in his song. This does not mean Don Ho forgot about his own culture while making this song. The timbre is very light and smooth making it the perfect hula song. Still today, Tiny Bubbles is popular in Hawaii because it goes very well against the choreography in hula dancing. There is also plenty of recordings of Don Ho performing in his native Hawaiian tongue. In my recording posted Don switches from speaking English to Hawaiian halfway through his performance.
