I chose this song because I wanted to make sure I chose something more modern. As citizens of western society, we often think of Africa as a place that is covered with poverty and hardship, and although some areas have their troubles, Africa also has a bustling culture that is like no other. The artist of this song is often referred to as “the father of South-African jazz”. This can be shown in the songs use of jazz instruments, including the trumpet; however, the song has other aspects from other influences as well. In the video for this song, we can see many dancers and members dressed in traditional African culture as they celebrate and dance to the song. The energy is also similar to a pop song from the 1960s where it is bubbly in nature. Overall, this song truly shows the rich beauty of African music.
